The Why Behind the What:
Matrescence is one of the most incredible things in life. It’s beautiful, it’s hard, and most importantly, it’s a dynamic transformation into a new version of YOU.
Even before becoming pregnant, I was considering how my physical health and activity levels would shift. Would I still be able to run? Ski? Rock climb? Lift? I felt fortunate for my background and training, which enabled me to feel confident in my own exercise choices and return-to-activity programs.
This experience also made me realize a few things; the general misconceptions regarding pregnancy-specific exercise, and the significant gap between basic postpartum recovery and actual return to an active lifestyle. Our medical system focuses on ensuring new mothers are healthy enough for daily activities, but often stops short of providing a comprehensive pathway back to sports and exercise.
And this gap isn't just about physical recovery – it's also about empowering women to confidently return to the activities that bring them joy and vitality. New mothers deserve more than waiting 6 weeks and being "cleared for exercise." Pregnant women deserve more than being scared away from activities and sports they have been doing safely for years. They deserve a knowledgeable guide who understands both the science of pregnancy and postpartum recovery, and the practical challenges of returning to sport as a new mom.
“Movement is a medicine for creating change in a person’s physical, emotional, and mental states.”
Credentials:
Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) - 2015
Doctorate in Physical Therapy - 2020
Herman & Wallace Pelvic Floor Level 1 - 2022
My Background:
I earned my undergrad degree in Exercise Science and Biology at Florida Southern College, where I competed in four years of NCAA DII lacrosse (ultimately winning the championship!). In addition, I became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) in 2015, and co-authored a paper on Exercise and Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) which was published in ACSM’s Health and Fitness Journal.
I earned my Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Eastern Washington University in 2020, and completed the Herman & Wallace Pelvic Floor Level 1 course in 2022. I have since worked in a variety of settings including sports rehab, women’s health, pelvic floor, and acute care.
My goal is to combine clinical expertise with practical experience to create comprehensive return-to-activity programs. My approach is rooted in:
Evidence-based practice
Individual assessment and customization
Progressive, phase-based training
Real-world application
Understanding of sport-specific demands
Perhaps most importantly, I understand firsthand the physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional journey of the pregnancy and postpartum times. I know what it feels like to wonder if you’ll feel good moving in your body again, and long for the freedom of movement you once had. I'm passionate about helping mothers find their new normal and safely and confidently engage in the activities they love.
My goal is to transform the postpartum recovery experience by providing the missing link between baseline rehab and full return to an active lifestyle. This starts during pregnancy by laying strong groundwork for improved maternal and infant health outcomes, and quicker recovery postpartum.
Every mother deserves to feel strong, capable, and confident in her body's abilities, whether she's carrying her baby on a hiking trail or racing down ski slopes.
